All Window Keyboard Shortcuts


Windows Shortcuts
  1. Shift + F10 right-clicks. 
  2. Win + L (XP Only): Locks keyboard. Similar to Lock Workstation. 
  3. Win + F or F3: Open Find dialog. (All Files) F3 may not work in some applications which use F3 for their own find dialogs. 
  4. Win + Control + F: Open Find dialog. (Computers) 
  5. Win + U: Open Utility Manager. 
  6. Win + F1: Open Windows help. 
  7. Win + Pause: Open System Properties dialog. 
  8. Win + Tab: Cycle through taskbar buttons. Enter clicks, AppsKey or Shift + F10 right-clicks. 
  9. Win + Shift + Tab: Cycle through taskbar buttons in reverse. 
  10. Alt + Tab: Display Cool Switch. More commonly known as the AltTab dialog. 
  11. Alt + Shift + Tab: Display Cool Switch; go in reverse. 
  12. Alt + Escape: Send active window to the bottom of the z-order. 
  13. Alt + Shift + Escape: Activate the window at the bottom of the z-order. 
  14. Alt + F4: Close active window; or, if all windows are closed, open shutdown dialog. 
  15. Shift while a CD is loading: Bypass AutoPlay. 
  16. Shift while login: Bypass startup folder. Only those applications will be ignored which are in the startup folder, not those started from the registry (Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\) 
  17. Ctrl + Alt + Delete or Ctrl + Alt + NumpadDel (Both NumLock states): Invoke the Task Manager or NT Security dialog. 
  18. Ctrl + Shift + Escape (2000/XP ) or (Ctrl + Alt + NumpadDot) : Invoke the task manager. On earlier OSes, acts like Ctrl + Escape. 
  19. Print screen: Copy screenshot of current screen to clipboard. 
  20. Alt + Print screen: Copy screenshot of current active window to clipboard. 
  21. Ctrl + Alt + Down Arrow: Invert screen. Untested on OS's other than XP. 
  22. Ctrl + Alt + Up Arrow: Undo inversion. 
  23. Win + B : Move focus to systray icons.

General

  1. Ctrl + C or Ctrl + Insert: Copy. 
  2. Ctrl + X or Shift + Delete: Cut. 
  3. Ctrl + V or Shift + Insert: Paste/Move. 
  4. Ctrl + N: New... File, Tab, Entry, etc. 
  5. Ctrl + S: Save. 
  6. Ctrl + O: Open... 
  7. Ctrl + P: Print. 
  8. Ctrl + Z: Undo. 
  9. Ctrl + A: Select all. 
  10. Ctrl + F: Find... 
  11. Ctrl+W : to close the current window 
  12. Ctrl + F4: Close tab or child window. 
  13. F1: Open help. 
  14. F11: Toggle full screen mode. 
  15. Alt or F10: Activate menu bar. 
  16. Alt + Space: Display system menu. Same as clicking the icon on the titlebar. 
  17. Escape: Remove focus from current control/menu, or close dialog box.

General Navigation

  1. Tab: Forward one item. 
  2. Shift + Tab: Backward one item. 
  3. Ctrl + Tab: Cycle through tabs/child windows. 
  4. Ctrl + Shift + Tab: Cycle backwards through tabs/child windows. 
  5. Enter: If a button's selected, click it, otherwise, click default button. 
  6. Space: Toggle items such as radio buttons or checkboxes. 
  7. Alt + (Letter): Activate item corresponding to (Letter). (Letter) is the underlined letter on the item's name. 
  8. Ctrl + Left: Move cursor to the beginning of previous word. 
  9. Ctrl + Right: Move cursor to the beginning of next word. 
  10. Ctrl + Up: Move cursor to beginning of previous paragraph. This and all subsequent Up/Down hotkeys in this section have only been known to work in Rich Edit controls. 
  11. Ctrl + Down: Move cursor to beginning of next paragraph. 
  12. Shift + Left: Highlight one character to the left. 
  13. Shift + Right: Highlight one character to the right. 
  14. Shift + Up: Highlight from current cursor position, to one line up. 
  15. Shift + Down: Highlight from current cursor position, to one line down. 
  16. Ctrl + Shift + Left: Highlight to beginning of previous word. 
  17. Ctrl + Shift + Right: Highlight to beginning of next word. 
  18. Ctrl + Shift + Up: Highlight to beginning of previous paragraph. 
  19. Ctrl + Shift + Down: Highlight to beginning of next paragraph. 
  20. Home: Move cursor to top of a scrollable control. 
  21. End: Move cursor to bottom of a scrollable control.

File Browser

  1. Arrow Keys: Navigate. 
  2. shift + Arrow Keys: Select multiple items. 
  3. Ctrl + Arrow Keys: Change focus without changing selection. "Focus" is the object that will run on Enter. Space toggles selection of the focused item. 
  4. (Letter): Select first found item that begins with (Letter). 
  5. BackSpace: Go up one level to the parent directory. 
  6. Alt + Left: Go back one folder. 
  7. Alt + Right: Go forward one folder. 
  8. Enter: Activate (Double-click) selected item(s). 
  9. Alt + Enter: View properties for selected item. 
  10. F2: Rename selected item(s). 
  11. Ctrl + NumpadPlus: In a Details view, resizes all columns to fit the longest item in each one. 
  12. Delete: Delete selected item(s). 
  13. Shift + Delete: Delete selected item(s); bypass Recycle Bin. 
  14. Ctrl while dragging item(s): Copy. 
  15. Ctrl + Shift while dragging item(s): Create shortcut(s). 
  16. In tree pane, if any: 
  17. Left: Collapse the current selection if expanded, or select the parent folder. 
  18. Right: Expand the current selection if collapsed, or select the first subfolder. 
  19. Numpad Asterisk: Expand currently selected directory and all subdirectories. No undo. 
  20. Numpad Plus: Expand currently selected directory. 
  21. Numpad Minus: Collapse currently selected directory.
